Concrete is strong, but it is porous. Without waterproofing, water slowly seeps through it, moisture reaches the steel reinforcement inside and it starts to rust, and that is when cracks begin. Waterproofing is not an extra; it determines how long the tank lasts.
Inside the chemical lining
A coating applied to the inner walls of the tank. It
- Stops water seeping into the concrete.
- Creates a smoother surface where sediment and algae do not build up easily.
- Makes the tank easier to clean and disinfect.
The internal lining must be suitable for drinking-water tanks.
Outside bitumen
Bitumen is a black, water-resistant material applied to the outside walls. If you see our tanks being installed you will notice they are black, that is the bitumen layer. It
- Protects the concrete from moisture and groundwater, especially underground.
- Protects the reinforcement from rust, vital in coastal areas such as Jeddah and the Eastern Province.
- Reduces the effect of salts in the soil.
What happens without waterproofing?
- Leaks that raise your water bill and damage the building’s foundations.
- Groundwater or moisture entering and contaminating the tank.
- Rusting steel and cracks that grow over time.
- Costly repairs or full replacement after only a few years.
Our tanks arrive waterproofed
