A precast concrete tank arrives from the factory and is lowered into place by crane, but for everything to go smoothly the site must be ready before delivery day. Here are the key steps
1. Choose the right location
- As far from the septic tank as possible, for water safety.
- Close to the water-truck inlet or mains connection for easy filling.
- Reachable by the crane, or within reach of its arm from the street.
2. Measure the space accurately
Compare your space with the tank dimensions on the sizes page, and leave clearance around the tank for installation, plumbing and maintenance. For long, narrow spaces there are long sizes such as the 29 m³ long.
3. Prepare the pit or base
Underground tanks
Excavate to the tank size plus a little on each side, and make sure the floor is level and well compacted. Many people pour a blinding concrete layer for a perfectly flat base. Learn more about underground tanks.
Above-ground tanks
You need an engineered concrete base that can carry the full tank. A 24 m³ tank holds about 24 tonnes of water on top of the concrete’s own weight, have an engineer design the base.
4. Check crane access
- The street must carry the truck and crane, with room for the crane’s outriggers.
- Watch for power lines, trees and shades above the lifting path.
- Send us photos of the street and site on WhatsApp and we will check everything before delivery.
5. Prepare the plumbing
Plan the fill inlet (water truck or mains), the pump suction line, and the vent and overflow. Once the tank is set, the plumbing can be connected quickly.
Installation day
We deliver the tank by truck, the crane lowers it into place, and we check it is level and stable. The whole process usually takes a single day. Questions beforehand? Contact us and we will plan every detail with you.
