Concrete or Plastic Water Tank? An Honest Comparison

Plastic tanks are everywhere because they are cheap and light. But are they the right choice for your home? Here is an honest comparison with concrete.

Reinforced concrete water tank on a concrete base

When shopping for a water tank you will find plastic (polyethylene) tanks everywhere, with tempting prices and low weight. Before you decide, let us compare them with reinforced concrete tanks on the points that really matter.

1. Lifespan

A reinforced concrete tank built under engineering supervision and properly waterproofed lasts a very long time, and ours carry a 10-year warranty. Plastic tanks have a shorter life, especially when exposed to the sun.

2. Water temperature in summer

Thin plastic walls let water heat up quickly under the Saudi sun. Thick concrete walls insulate against heat, keeping water much cooler, especially in an underground tank.

3. Capacity

Plastic tanks usually come in small sizes, so large capacity means installing several. A single concrete tank from us goes up to 29 m³, or 29,000 litres.

4. Strength

Reinforced concrete withstands soil pressure, loads and impacts. Plastic can deform or crack under pressure or impact and is not suited to underground use without special preparation.

5. The real cost

Plastic is cheaper upfront, but factoring in its shorter life, the need for several tanks for large capacities, and replacement after a few years, concrete is usually more economical in the long run. Compare our concrete tank prices.
